land mohn grants. 2022 - 2025
Multiple projects across various sites in the City of Los Angeles & Los Angeles County.
Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) commissions site-responsive free public art and programs. The LAND MOHN Grants were introduced in 2023 to support new and ambitious works by emerging artists in Los Angeles. The grant is an opportunity for artists to explore how their work could exist in a public space, often-times on a larger scale than previously possible. Between 2023-2025, twelve projects have been organized across Los Angeles with sites including Los Angeles State Historic Park, Plaza Mexico, Exposition Park Rose Garden, Koreatown Plaza, as well as soccer fields, freeway underpasses, city murals, and more. Projects (some pictured here) included a traveling mobile sculpture that monitors air-quality as it roams, an installation of seven ceramic works comprised of elements created by public workshop participants, a permanent large-scale poster & window mural in a community-beloved mall, experimentation with a mycelium-fueled rocket, as well as other performances & work spanning mediums, and exploring the nature of public space, immigration, displacement, spirituality, and community.
The LAND MOHN Grant Projects are organized by LAND Curators-at-Large, Irina Gusin and Bryan Barcena.
